dc.description.abstractEnglish: Intended as a means of preparing students from historically black high schools for tertiary admission and to facilitate their transition to tertiary education, the Career Preparation Programme (CPP) has been in operation at the University of the Orange Free State since 1993. This paper reports the results of an investigation into the long-term effectiveness of rhe CPP. It compared various indices of academic performance of the 1993 and 1994 intakes of CPP students with the corresponding indices of black students who were directly admitted co the UOFS in 1994 and 1995 respectively, taking into account group differences in previous academic [unclear text).en_ZA
dc.description.abstractAfrikaans: Aan die UOVS is die Career Preparation Programme (CPP) sedert 1993 in werking om as gereedmakings- en toelatingsmeganisme die oorgang tot tersiere onderrig van studente van histories swart hoërskole te vergemaklik. Hierdie artikel !ewer verslag oor 'n ondersoek na die langtermyndoeltreffendheid van die CPP. Verskeie prestasieindekse van die 1993- en 1994-innames van CPP-studente is met die ooreenstemmende indekse van swart studente wat onderskeidelik in 1994 en 1995 regstreeks tot die UOVS toegelaat is, vergelyk na groepverskille in vorige akademiese prestasie (matriekpunte) staristies in berekening gebring is. Die prestasie-indekse wat aangewend is, was die gemiddelde kurrikulumpersentasiepunte en die getal verwerfde krediete (in die afsonderlike studiejare, sowel as kumulatief) en die studiestakings- en gradueringskoerse. Die resultate suggereer dat die CPP-studente aan die hand van geen van hierdie operasionaliserings van akademiese prestasie enigsins beter gevaar het as wat op grond van hul swak matriekprestasie voorspel sou kon word nie.en_ZA
