Abstract
Following a rapid biodiversity assessment of spiders in the arid western interior of South Africa, we report on the occurrence of some poorly known and new species of chrysilline jumping spiders. Lawrence, 1927 are recorded from the Northern Cape Province for the first time, and ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ฐ๐ค๐ข๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ด ๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ๐ถ๐ต๐ช (Wesoลowska & Haddad, 2014) (Lesotho) and ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ๐ถ๐ด ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ช๐ด Wesoลowska, 1986 (Angola) are recorded from South Africa for the first time, both also from the Northern Cape. The hitherto unknown females of ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ฐ๐ค๐ข๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ด ๐ฎ๐ช๐ณ๐ข๐ฃ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ด (Wesoลowska, 1986) and ๐๐ค๐ช๐ถ๐ด ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ญ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ญ๐ถ๐ด Haddad & Wesoลowska, 2011 and the male of ๐. ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ด๐ด๐ฆ๐ณ๐ต๐ช are described for the first time. Three new species are described: (ex ๐๐ด๐ฆ๐ถ๐ฅ๐ช๐ค๐ช๐ถ๐ด Simon, 1885), is proposed. We present the first comprehensive molecular analysis of South Africa ๐๐ฉ๐ณ๐บ๐ด๐ช๐ญ๐ญ๐ช๐ฏ๐ช jumping spiders, based on the cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene, which supports the monophyly of all but two genera (๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ฏ๐ถ๐ด Wesoลowska, 1986 and ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ๐ถ๐ด C.L. Koch, 1833), which we briefly discuss.
