Abstract

Following a rapid biodiversity assessment of spiders in the arid western interior of South Africa, we report on the occurrence of some poorly known and new species of chrysilline jumping spiders. Lawrence, 1927 are recorded from the Northern Cape Province for the first time, and ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ช (Wesoล‚owska & Haddad, 2014) (Lesotho) and ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ด Wesoล‚owska, 1986 (Angola) are recorded from South Africa for the first time, both also from the Northern Cape. The hitherto unknown females of ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฃ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ด (Wesoล‚owska, 1986) and ๐˜๐˜ค๐˜ช๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜ฑ๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ด Haddad & Wesoล‚owska, 2011 and the male of ๐˜”. ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ช are described for the first time. Three new species are described: (ex ๐˜—๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ถ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ช๐˜ถ๐˜ด Simon, 1885), is proposed. We present the first comprehensive molecular analysis of South Africa ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ณ๐˜บ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ช jumping spiders, based on the cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene, which supports the monophyly of all but two genera (๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ง๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ด Wesoล‚owska, 1986 and ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ด C.L.
