Some thoughts on the privileges and responsibilities of being an academic at a university

Abstract

Looking back on a career of 35 years at the UFS, I thought it might be an idea to reflect for a moment on the privileges and responsibilities of being an academic at a university. I will therefore not bore you with a paper on interesting recent developments in the field of Old Testament studies but rather speak to a topic concerning almost all of us who have an interest in the institution we call the UFS.
