Abstract
English
Despite the many portrayals of bullying at school hostels in biographies, autobiographies,
youth and adult fiction, and films, very few research publications deal with
violence in general, and bullying in particular, at hostels. The aim of this case study
was to address this gap in the South African literature on bullying. This article will
report the results of an investigation in 2006 to determine the experiences, observations
and perceptions of learners boarding at an Eastern Cape school hostel in
relation to the nature and extent of bullying.
